Brett Scott

Punt Drunk Daily – 4/3/2021

Welcome to your Friday eve edition of #PuntDrunk!

There’s only two more days until Super Saturday at Flemington and a massive afternoon of racing at Royal Randwick to accompany it, including the return to Sydney of both Nature Strip and Bivouac.

Here’s hoping the team at HorseBetting.com.au can steer you into a couple of bank builders to ramp up your betting accounts ahead of a big weekend on the punt.

Another day, another trainer accident

Todd Howlett flipped his horse float on Tuesday morning and lost one of the five runners aboard, and now Brett Scott is in an induced coma after being kicked in the head by a horse at his Mornington paddock. It is reported that Scott has a bleed on the brain and a skull fracture, which suggests he has one hell of a fight on his hands. It is hard to imagine the pain his nearest and dearest must be in, but it is safe to say the entire Punt Drunk community is sending all the well wishes to Scott and his family at this most challenging time.

The fields for Saturday’s four Group 1 races were announced on Wednesday just prior to lunch time. Despite the large field in the Newmarket Handicap, it was no surprise to see September Run open as a short-priced favourite. In the other Group 1 at Flemington on Saturday, the rest of the Australian Cup field will need to get past last year’s winner, Fifty Stars, who has opened as a $4.60 favourite in what looks to be an open race.

Up in Sydney, the New Zealand raider Aegon is a $2.40 favourite for the Randwick Guineas, but he will need to overcome Peltzer’s perfect 5-0 record at Royal Randwick. In the Canterbury Stakes, it is no surprise to see the best sprinter in the world, Bivouac, open as a $3.80 favourite, although he is stepping out at 1300m for the first time in his career. Having won at 1400m in his juvenile campaign, this will be Biv’s first go beyond 1200m since his win in the Golden Rose back in September 2019.

With many more black-type races on Saturday, HorseBetting.com.au will be your one-stop destination for a big afternoon on the punt!

Punt Drunk’s best bet of the day

The Matthew Dunn-trained Blue Kentucky Moon has had four starts for two wins, a runner-up, and a respectable fifth at Doomben. The three-year-old gelding ended his debut campaign with back-to-back wins over the 1200m trips in the spring, so he looks over the odds at $3.50 in this Class 2.

Ipswich – Class 2 Handicap (1200m)Race 5 – Blue Kentucky Moon (#4) $3.50 with Sportsbet
