Eagle Farm betting preview – March 6, 2021

Nine races will be run and won at Eagle Farm on Saturday afternoon in what is far from a standout card. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is out just the 1m for the entire course, and the first race is set to jump at 12:23pm.

Best Bet: Leadership Spill

Leadership Spill was a good winner over the 1050m at Doomben three weeks ago when backed into odds-on favouritism, and this looks another nice race for the Gollan-trained gelding. By Top Echelon, the four-year-old has won three of his 10 starts and placed in a further five, never missing the placings at this track and distance. Drawn in barrier one under Ryan Maloney, he should find the front, dictate terms and prove hard to catch. He does rise 2.5kg from his last-start victory and this is a touch tougher, but he is going well enough to win again.

Best BetRace 3 – Leadership Spill (#1) $2.70 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Only Wanna Sing

Rockhampton visitor Only Wanna Sing heads down to Eagle Farm for a One Metro Win Handicap over 1200m. The five-year-old son of Your Song has won eight of his last 12 races since moving to the Jared Wehlow camp in Central Queensland from the Rob Heathcote yard at Eagle Farm. Having won the one metropolitan race at start three when a two-year-old, he failed to break through again for just over two years. If he doesn’t lead, he will box seat under Ash Butler, who knows the horse well. He can continue on with the job.

Next BestRace 6 – Only Wanna Sing (#2) $2.80 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Harlequin Fields

Matthew Dunn and Michael Rodd combine in the get-out stakes with last-start winner Harlequin Field. The three-year-old broke through in style at the Gold Coast last time out, leading all of the way to beat Marleedoone over 1400m, and he stays at that trip this weekend. Having drawn barrier seven, he is likely to settle in the first three or four, which will suit in what looks to be only a moderate tempo. Two starts back he was only narrowly defeated by Defiant Diva, who has some good form lines. The $7 is a great each-way play in the last.

Best ValueRace 9 – Harlequin Fields (#5) $7 with Sportsbet
