The classy Grant & Alana Williams-trained WA champion Arcadia Queen was all-in favourite to hand the stable with successive victories in the weight-for-age classic and was also the most voted for horse in the public vote for the Top 10.

Things started to go amiss for her on Thursday however when she shifted a plate and was found to be 1/5 lame when being re-shod.

At her next inspection by Racing Victoria vets that worsened to 2/5 lame before she failed to pass her third and final check on Saturday morning ahead of the official 7:30am (AEDT) scratchings deadline.

Still presenting with lameness in her right off-fore, Arcadia Queen was forced to scratch out from the third edition of The All-Star Mile paving the way for the first emergency Fifty Stars to gain a start at 20/1.

“Arcadia Queen underwent her third inspection this morning with vets reporting she is still lame in the off fore leg. The mare will be withdrawn on vets’ advice. First emergency Fifty Stars will now gain a start,” Racing Victoria confirmed on Twitter at 6:38am (AEDT) this morning.

The scratching has also altered the line-up of All-Star Mile jockeys with Racing Victoria’s chief steward Robert Cram confirming John Allen would partner Fifty Stars and Arcadia Queen’s hoop William Pike would jump aboard the Cox Plate winner Sir Dragonet ($12) from barrier nine.

Updated All-Star Mile odds at Ladbrokes.com.au are now led by brilliant Kiwi mare Probabeel at $3.50 who beat Arcadia Queen home last start at Caulfield in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m).

There has also been big money following in for a first-up win by the Danny O’Brien-trained Russian Camelot who has firmed notably from $8 to $4.50 through Ladbrokes.com.au.

Last time resuming this SA Derby winner had a bad time at the barriers, was vetted but passed fit to run ahead of his strong second in Flemington’s Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at this same 1600m distance.

Following that the smart Camelot four-year-old won the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) as the odds-on elect before his second to Arcadia Queen in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m).

His other The Valley run produced the eye-catching third in the Ladbrokes Cox Plate, while his last start when under four lengths back eighth in the Melbourne Cup over two miles was brave.

The All-Star Mile 2021 is scheduled to run as Moonee Valley Race 8 at 4:40pm (AEDT) this afternoon.
