Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted March 13, 2021 Journalists Share Posted March 13, 2021 'TDN Rising Star' Concert Tour (c, 3, Street Sense–Purse Strings, by Tapit) provided trainer Bob Bafferrt with his eighth victory in the GII Rebel S.–all since 2010–with a powerful front-running tour-de-force Saturday in Hot Springs. Sent off the 17-10 second favorite behind fellow 'Rising Star' Caddo River (Hard Spun), Concert Tour was hard sent from gate seven by Joel Rosario, but Florent Geroux aboard the rail-drawn Southwest S. winner wasn't going allow his rival an easy time of it, as he raced up underneath before yielding to stalk from second. The pace, fast early, slowed up through the next quarter mile and the half was posted in :47.53, positions largely unchanged. Caddo River, who raced hard on the steel once unable to secure the front end, settled better in the middle stages and was poised to make a run at the leader inside the three-furlong marker. But Caddo River was unable to make a serious impact, and Concert Tour lengthened clear under a hold from his rider, scoring by about six lengths. The winner's far-less-heralded stablemate Hozier (Pioneerof the Nile) closed up the inside for second ahead of Big Lake (American Pharoah), who was bumped soundly by a weakening Caddo River at the furlong grounds. Lifetime Record: 3-3-0-0. O/B-Gary & Mary West Stable Inc (KY); T-Bob Baffert.
