Punt Drunk Daily – 20/3/21

G’day punters, and essentially Merry Christmas! What an absolute buffet of racing we have today at a wet and sloppy Rosehill with five, yes five Group 1 races to be run and won. The fantastic team here at Horsebetting have all your punting needs covered at not only Rosehill but a strong support cart at Mornington, where a win in the Mornington Cup gifts you a golden ticket straight into the 2021 Caulfield Cup. Safe to say, if you do not have an online betting account, today is the day to open one!

Also, how bloody good was Masked Crusader in the William Reid last night? Good ol’ Pikey!

Can the Irish light the flame for Brett Scott?

We love a feel good story here at Punt Drunk, so hear us out. Mornington based trainer Brett Scott was rushed into ICU and into an induced coma earlier in the month when a horse of his lashed out and kicked him in the scone at his paddock not far from the Mornington course. The Brett Scott-trained Irish Flame lines up in the Mornington Cup later today, where if he wins, Irish Flame will secure a golden ticket straight into the Caulfield Cup later on in the year. It was St Patrick’s Day during the week and Irish Angel got the job done on the Kenso track. So if the putning gods are listening surely it is Irish Flame who gets the job done in the Mornington Cup.

Widgee Turf adds to the list of retirees

$4,500 Widgee Turf wins Race 7 at Flemington and edges closer to $1 million in prize money! #AllStarMile | #7racing pic.twitter.com/Otd3wyKvpr

Let’s be honest, at one point or another we have sent a message in group chats claiming how good of a thing Widgee Turf is on a Saturday. The enigma of all enigma’s has run his last race unfortunately, with Patrick Payne pulling the pin on the infamous career of Widgee Turf. He was purchased for a cheeky $4,000 but returned a cool $1.25 million to connections thanks to 11 wins from 42 starts. Joining the likes of Farnan and Russian Camelot in retirement this week, it is safe to say we have lost some good horses from the race track this week.

A jockey’s health always comes first, no matter the legend status

Medical advice does not come anymore blunt than “Corey, you will never ride again”. Corey Brown has now known for a long time that his career as a jockey was over due to a horrible fall in the Queensland Derby almost two years ago. It takes some sort of effort to win one Melbourne Cup, but to win two Cups shows the absolute elite status Brown earnt over the years. He partnered Shocking in 2009 and Rekindling in 2017 to Cup success and also added a couple of ATC Derby’s and Sydney Cup’s. He was a legend in the pig skin and was usually a punters pal!

Punt Drunk’s Best Bet Of The Day

Chico Milagro just simply got too far back when first up from a spell at Doomben, but charged home to grab third. Despite being well beaten, it showed he has a big autumn/winter ahead and with Michael Rodd sticking from barrier two it looks the perfect opportunity to chip up early on the day with a big/soft win.

Eagle Farm – Race 1 – BENCHMARK 80 Handicap (1200m)#2 Chico Milagro (2) $2.30 with Sportsbet
