Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 3, 2021 Journalists Share Posted April 3, 2021 Shadwell Stables' 'TDN Rising Star' MALATHAAT (f, 3, Curlin–Dreaming of Julia, by A.P. Indy) joined her 'Rising Star' dam and granddam Dream Rush (Wild Rush) as top-level winners, as she was produced at the precise correct moment and ran down Pass the Champagne (Flatter) to take out Saturday's GI Central Bank Ashland S. at Keeneland. Favored at 3-2 while making her seasonal debut and first start since winning last year's GII Demoiselle S. in December, the $1.05-million Keeneland September grad was unhurried at the back of the field as Simply Ravishing (Laoban), winner of last year's GI Darley Alcibiades S. over this course and distance set the pace from Moon Swag (Malibu Moon), with Pass the Champagne drafting in just behind. Joel Rosario got after Malathaat with about three furlongs to run, but Pass the Champagne was angled out approaching the short stretch and pinched what appeared to be a winning break. But Malathaat was finding her best stride an eighth of a mile from home and reeled in Pass the Champagne in the last couple of strides. A maiden winner at first asking and accorded 'Rising Star' status, Malathaat aired by 7 3/4 lengths in the Nov. 6 Tempted S. and proved a 3/4-length winner of the Demoiselle Dec. 5.
