Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 3, 2021 Journalists Share Posted April 3, 2021 Favored at 3-5, owing in no small part to her red-hot jockey Joel Rosario, KIMARI (f, 4, Munnings–Cozze Up Lady, by Cozzene) sat handy to the pace, got first run on the come-from-behinders and lasted to take Saturday's GI Madison S. at Keeneland. Not always quickly away from the stalls, the $152,000 Fasig-Tipton July graduate jumped well–indeed, almost too well–and put herself right in the thick of things, stalking Mundaye Call (Into Mischief) through an opening quarter-mile that was moderate at best. With Rosario sitting against her, waiting to pull the trigger, Kimari traveled comfortably approaching the stretch, kicked once heads were turned for home and easily held sway late as Bell's the One (Majesticperfection) and Estilo Talentoso (Maclean's Music) shared the spoils for second. A 15-length maiden winner at this meeting two years ago, Kimari was runner-up against the boys in the age-restricted G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last June. Third in the Music City S. at Kentucky Downs in September, the bay most recently romped in the Feb. 27 Spring Fever S. at Oaklawn Park. Sales history: $152,000 Ylg '18 FTKJUL.
