Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 3, 2021 Journalists Share Posted April 3, 2021 PAULINE'S PEARL (f, 3, Tapit–Hot Dixie Chick, by Dixie Union) wrapped a pretty successful 20-minute stretch for her sire and contributed to an outstanding day at the races for her breeder, inching clear late to win Saturday's GIII Fantasy S. at Oaklawn Park. Favored at 4-5 on the strength of a runner-up effort to Will's Secret (Will Take Charge)–third in the GI Central Bank Ashland S.–in the GIII Honeybee S. last time, Pauline's Pearl was consigned to a three- or four-wide run around the first turn before tucking in for some cover. Eased back out into the three path for the run down the backstretch, the homebred traveled on the bridle and went up outside of pacesetting Ava's Grace (Laoban) nearing the stretch. The front-runner proved a stubborn customer inside, but Pauline's Pearl had just a bit too much for that one late and edged away for her first graded stakes win. Stonestreet also bred Ashland winner Malathaat (Curlin), while Tapit's champion son Essential Quality was tough as nails in the GII Toyota Blue Grass S.
