Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 9, 2021 Journalists Share Posted April 9, 2021 What 2021 Sires’ Produce Stakes Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031 When Saturday, April 10, 2021 | 2:30pm AEST | Race 6 Prizemoney $1,000,000 Distance 1400m Status Group 1 Race Conditions Set weights | 2YO 2020 Winner King’s Legacy (8) – 56.5kg | Jockey: Hugh Bowman | Trainer: Peter & Paul Snowden Watch Live Streaming Live at Sportsbet A field of 10 two-year-olds will do battle in the $1 million Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes this Saturday on Day 1 of The Championships. While it is a weaker race than we expected with no Artorius, Stay Inside, Sword Of State, or Ingratiating, it should still be a good spectacle with the fast-finishing Anamoe the $2.30 favourite and Four Moves Ahead the $5 second elect. Lightsaber has led all of the way in his last two wins, so we expect him to lead from Four Moves Ahead, Tiger Of Malay and Chill. HorseBetting.com.au’s racing experts have done the form for the Sires’ Produce Stakes and give you their top three along with the best $100 betting play. It is near impossible to go past Anamoe in his first attempt at seven furlongs. The James Cummings-trained colt has placed in both the Blue Diamond Stakes and Golden Slipper, winning the Group 2 Todman Stakes over 1200m in between. He is a get-back, run-on type of colt and must be wary of spotting the leaders too much of a head start, but he has been crying out for 1400m since his debut. Drawn in barrier five under James McDonald, the son of Street Boss will land midfield and come with a withering burst in the final 400m. This is one of the bets of the day. Peter & Paul Snowden know what it takes to win this race, with five winners from the past 10 editions, so they should have Captivant firing at the right time. The son of Capitalist won on debut and was not beaten too far in his next three starts, including a fifth placing in the Golden Slipper last time out when he had little luck. Linking up with Tom Marquand for the third time on race day is a positive sign, and from barrier eight he should be able to go forward and settle in the one-one. The 1400m should suit this colt too. Lightsaber is going to be up on the speed from barrier three and has gone from barrier-to-box in his last two starts, including a win in the VRC Sires’ at Group 2 level at Flemington. On that occasion he defeated Saif, who franked the form by winning the Schweppervescence on Saturday at Rosehill in good style. Luke Nolen will again do the steering on this Peter Moody-trained colt, and that combination has been successful in the past. We are not expecting much pressure on them in front, and if Lightsaber can pinch a few easy sectionals along the back, he might have enough in the tank to fend off the challengers.
