Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 11, 2021 Journalists Share Posted April 11, 2021 SUPER STOCK (c, Dialed In–Super Girlie, by Closing Argument) pulled off a shocker in the GI Arkansas Derby, running down previously undefeated favorite Concert Tour (Street Sense) and SW Caddo River (Hard Spun) late to secure a spot in the gate for the GI Kentucky Derby. Owned by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen's dad Keith and longtime client Erv Woolsey, the 12-1 shot was away well from his rail draw, but was smartly wrapped up by Ricardo Santana and kept tabs from a joint third as Caddo River was pressed along by Concert Tour through a half-mile in :46.51. Those two turned for home neck and neck with Super Stock hot on their heels. He was swung out three wide in the lane by Santana and swept to the front in the final sixteenth, kicking clear for a two length score. Caddo River held second over Concert Tour. Breaking his maiden in a Lone Star stake at third asking in August under Asmussen's son Keith, Super Stock was third in both the Sept. 5 GIII Iroquois S. and Oct. 3 GI Claiborne Breeders' Futurity S. Runner-up to Saturday's GIII Coolmore Lexington S. winner King Fury (Curlin) in the Street Sense S. Oct. 25, the $70,000 KEESEP buy was last seen finishing fourth behind Concert Tour and Hozier (American Pharoah) in this venue's GII Rebel S. Mar. 13. Lifetime Record: 8-2-2-2. O-Erv Woolsey & Keith Asmussen; B-Pedro & P J Gonzalez (KY); T-Steve Asmussen.
