WinStar Gets in Microshare Game

Kenny Troutt's WinStar Farm, one of the industry's leading breeder and owner operations, announced Wednesday an entry into the microshare world. In a strategic partnership with the fractional investment platform Commonwealth, the team will initially offer microshares in last year's GIII Peter Pan S. winner Country Grammar (Tonalist), who most recently was seen finishing second by a neck last Saturday in the GII Californian S. A number of 2-year-old colts will soon be added as well. A $550,000 son of Midnight Storm was purchased by WinStar's Elliott Walden Tuesday at the OBS Spring sale in the name of Maverick Racing/CMNWLTH.

“We have been talking to the Commonwealth team for over a year and we are excited to enter into this partnership,” said Walden. “We have seen the microshare space grow and believe that offering the horses that WinStar Farm races to the public will bring excitement and energy to the sport.”

Commonwealth was founded by Brian Doxtator and Chase Chamberlin and features both mobile and web apps to invest in horses owned, acquired, or managed by WinStar. The Commonwealth app features interactive pedigrees, photo galleries, career highlights, and fully transparent investment details. Users can select shares, sign ownership documents, and securely fund accounts without ever leaving the platform.

“At the end of the day our goal is to grow the sport of horse racing and we think one of the best ways to do that is through this partnership,” said Preston Troutt, son of WinStar's founder. “Commonwealth has built the right technology and has an aggressive vision for the future that has us excited for all that we can offer to the sport.”
