Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 29, 2021 Journalists Share Posted April 29, 2021 Calling collectors of harness racing memorabilia. The family of the late Bob McArdle has a swag of photos, trophies and other items and they want them to go to a new home. Born in Tasmania he was a high profile harness racing figure on both sides of the Tasman, and was a founding partner of Nevele R stud along with Wayne Francis. Both Bob and his brother John were bloodstock agents, and it was from Brothers McArdle that “Bromac” would become their trademark. Among the best horses Bob McArdle owned were 2005 Auckland Cup winner Howard Bromac while one of Bob’s favourites was Montini Bromac, who won eight from 16 races in the late 1970s. He was the first winner in NZ by one of the foundation sires of Nevele R in Timely Knight. Holmes Hanover and Falcon Seelster were two of the most successful sires purchased by Bob for Nevele R with Holmes Hanover being the first NZ based sire to sire over a thousand winners. Bob McArdle died in January 2018 aged 75.
