Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 30, 2021 Journalists Share Posted April 30, 2021 'TDN Rising Star' MALATHAAT (f, 3, Curlin–Dreaming of Julia, by A.P. Indy) remained unbeaten with a gutsy victory in the GI Kentucky Oaks, adding to her already impressive credentials. Favored at 5-2, the $1.05-million KEESEP purchase was squeezed at the start, but did not let it rattle her, settling two-wide in mid-pack as Travel Column (Frosted) clocked a :23.60 opening quarter and :47.47 half-mile. Search Results (Flatter) took first run at the leader turning for home, but Malathaat was hot on her heels, taking command in the lane. Those two duked it down the lane, but Malathaat refused to be denied, forging past her foe for a neck success. It was the fourth Oaks win for Pletcher and the second for Velazquez, who teamed with Pletcher to take the 2004 renewal with Ashado. A debut winner at Belmont Oct. 9, Malathaat romped by 7 3/4 lengths in Aqueduct's Tempted S. Nov. 6 and followed suit with a victory in a sloppy renewal of that venue's GII Demoiselle S. Dec. 5. She entered this off a determined score in the GI Central Bank Ashland S. Apr. 3. Lifetime Record: 5-5-0-0. O-Shadwell Stable; B-Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings (KY); T-Todd Pletcher.
