Jackie’s Warrior All Heart In Pat Day Mile

Cutting back to one turn for the first time since annexing last year's GI Champagne S., J. Kirk and Judy Robison's JACKIE'S WARRIOR (c, 3, Maclean's Music–Unicorn Girl, by A.P. Five Hundred) set a near-impossible pace in Saturday's GII Pat Day Mile, but called on all his class to hold off 'TDN Rising Star' Dream Shake (Twirling Candy) in the run to the wire. One of several early-speed types signed on, Jackie's Warrior was fastest of the fast, leading narrowly from Dream Shake through an opening quarter in :21.75 and hit the turn after a half in a mind-boggling :43.68. There were no breathers for Jackie's Warrior as he cut the six furlongs in 1:07.97, and when Dream Shake came to tackle at midstretch, those holding tickets on Jackie's Warrior would have been considering tossing them away. But the burly colt stiff-armed Dream Shake and held on stubbornly to the line, scoring by a head. Whiskey Double (Into Mischief) was third.
