CHANNEL CAT (h, 6, English Channel–Carnival Kitten, by Kitten's Joy) stole the show in the GI Man o'War S. under Hall of famer John Velazquez Saturday at Belmont. Contesting the early pace, the 8-1 shot took command as the first quarter went in :22.73 and clocked a half in :47.53. Registering three-quarters in 1:12.45, the homebred showed the way into the lane and was confronted by Gufo (Declaration of War) to his outside and Moon Over Miami (Malibu Moon) to his inside, but outlasted his foes for a narrow success. Previously trained by Todd Pletcher, Channel Cat was transferred to Jack Sisterson after finishing fourth in the GII Pan American S. in March of last year. Fifth in the GII Fort Lauderdale S. In his first start for this barn Dec. 12, he was fifth in the GIII William L. McKnight S. Jan. 23 and checked in second in Keeneland's GII Elkhorn S. Apr. 17. Lifetime Record: 26-6-3-5.
