Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 15, 2021 Journalists Share Posted May 15, 2021 All the pre-race hype circled around Kentucky Derby victory Medina Spirit (Protonico), but it was Rombauer (c, 3, Twirling Candy–Cashmere, by Cowboy Cal) who stole the show in Saturday's GI Preakness S. at Pimlico. Settled off a legitimate pace set by the race favorite, the 11-1 shot kicked into gear in the stretch, rolling past the Derby winner and Midnight Bourbon (Tiznow) to score by 3 1/2 lengths. Medina Spirit was third. Final time for the 1 3/16 miles test was 1:53.52. Lifetime Record: 7-3-1-1, $890,500. O/B-John and Diane Fradkin; T-Michael McCarthy.
