You’re So Fine to Jewels after big purchase

A huge money offer too good to turn down has led to You’re So Fine’s Harness Jewels mission changing to all systems go.

Trainer Brett Gray previously took New Zealand’s Superbowl race day off the classy two-year-old’s radar immediately after his national record-breaking win in the Group 2 Diamond Creek Farm Classic on Diamonds Day at Ascot Park.

But those plans have now changed after You’re So Fine’s owners the Makarewa Country Club Syndicate received a big money offer from the Gary Hall Snr stable.

“The money was too good to turn down, so the horse will go to the Jewels to race 50-50 with the new owners,” Gray said.

“The money will set the syndicate up for life, really.”

“After that he will go with Ragazzo Mach to West Australia and the syndicate will retain a 20% share in him.”

The deal means Gray will have a Harness Jewels runner at Cambridge for the first time since Full Noise ran second behind Enhance Your Calm in the Two-Year-Old Ruby in 2018.

You’re So Fine will accompany Nathan Williamson’s Harness Jewels runners on their big road trip from Southland in the coming days before he meets up with Gray.

Gray admitted when You’re So Fine leaves his stable he will be letting go of one of the best horses he has ever trained.

Just a $15,000 purchase at NZB Standardbred’s National Yearling Sales, the colt has always shown his trainer plenty of promise.

“He would rate right up there with the best ones I’ve had,” Gray said.

“He was only a $15,000 yearling but I liked what I saw.”

“He broke in really nice and he has been pretty A-B-C since then.”

“Winning the Diamond Creek Farm race was a huge thrill for us.”

Ragazzo Mach signed off in style ahead of his trip north by winning his last start in Southland at Winton on Saturday for Nathan Williamson.

The three-year-old enjoyed a very comfortable lead before sprinting home and holding out Chuckles in the home straight.

Williamson also has stable star Pembrook Playboy and Kiwitrix heading to next month’s Harness Jewels.
