Arty off to stud

Superstar pacer Lochinvar Art will stand at stud later this year.

But don’t panic, he’ll mix stud duties with his rehab as plans focus on a late-December or early January return to the racetrack.

Trainer-driver David Moran is well-progressed in talks with Luke and Belinda McCarthy for Lochinvar Art to stand at Cobbity Equine and do his rehab there as well.

“They’ve got a great set-up and they’ve successfully rehab-ed horses and bred with them at the same time in the past, most recently with Bling It On,” Moran said.

“Luke reckons ‘Arty’ will get a 100 mares if we stand him so Kevin (Gordon, owner) and I are onboard.

“By the time he finishes serving the mares in December, he should’ve finished his rehab and be virtually set to race again. He could come back to me in December to get ready for the Hunter Cup and Miracle Mile.”

Moran said Lochinvar Art was almost finished a month in a box at his Shepparton stable and then it’s three months in the paddock.

“After the paddock he’ll head to Luke and Belinda and start the rehab,” Moran said.

“The way the timing works, I don’t think he’s any real chance of making the Inter Dominion. It looks to much of a rush.

“We just want to get him back and firing and this looks the best option.”

Lochinvar Art hasn’t raced since winning the Hunter Cup at Melton on February. He battled hoof issues soon after which ruled him out of the Miracle Mile and deteriorated to cause bone bruising and force him out for a long break.
