Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 2, 2021 Journalists Share Posted June 2, 2021 According to Joe Drape of the New York Times, the split sample has been returned for beleaguered Medina Spirit (Protonico), who crossed the wire first in the May 1 GI Kentucky Derby but had his post-race drug test come back positive for the banned medication betamethasone. According to Drape, the split sample has also returned with a positive finding. Medina Spirit faces the possibility of being only the second Derby winner in the race's history to be disqualified for a medication positive, following Dancer's Image in 1968. Neither Churchill Downs nor trainer Bob Baffert has yet responded to the alleged findings. This story will be updated.
