Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 5, 2021 Journalists Share Posted June 5, 2021 Per Incanto four-year-old Shadow Crush (NZ) recorded his fifth career win from 12 starts when successful at Rosehill on Saturday over 1200m. The Mark Newnham trained speedster enjoyed a good run in the trail under Sam Clipperton and targeted favourite Rammstein from a long way out, cruising past that rival and staving off the efforts of runner-up Smart Image. “It was his first run in blinkers the other day and he was suited by a hot tempo and again today’s race had plenty pressure up front and he was able to find a good position and win nicely,” Newnham said. Bred by Bloomsbury Stud, Shadow Crush was pinhooked from the New Zealand Bloodstock Weanling Sale at Karaka by Woburn Farm’s Adrian Stanley and Hannah Kettlety for $90,000. Newnham has previously enjoyed success with the progeny of Little Avondale Stud stallion Per Incanto, having trained his Group Three winning son Lanciato (NZ). It was another strong day in Australia for Per Incanto, with his daughter Charms Star (NZ) finishing runner-up in the Gr.1 Queensland Oaks (2200m). Charms Star joined the stable of Chris Waller after finishing runner-up in the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m) for Lisa Latta, and finished third on Australian debut in the Gr.2 The Roses (2000m) prior to Saturday’s Oaks placing.
