Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 5, 2021 Journalists Share Posted June 5, 2021 Winchell Thoroughbreds and Willis Horton Racing's Silver State (c, 4, Hard Spun–Supreme, by Empire Maker) grabbed command at midstretch and pulled away to score by 1 1/2 lengths in the GI Hill 'n' Dale Metropolitan H. at Belmont Park Saturday. The Met Mile is a Win and You're In event for the GI Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Sprint. Knicks Go (Paynter), the 4-5 favorite, set the pace while shadowed by Mischevious Alex (Into Mischief) through fractions of :23.36 and :46.31. The two pacesetters drifted out turning into the stretch, allowing Silver State to rally up the rail where he powered to the lead with a furlong to run and inched away before holding off the late-rushing By My Standards (Goldencents). Silver State, second in last year's GIII Lecomte S. and third in the GII Risen Star S., was winning his sixth straight race Saturday. He opened the year with a win in the Jan. 23 Fifth Season S. and added the Mar. 13 Essex H. before earning his first graded tally in the Apr. 17 GII Oaklawn H. Winchell Thoroughbreds purchased the colt for $450,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September sale. Lifetime Record: 11-7-2-1. O-Winchell Thoroughbreds & Willis Horton Racing.
