Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 16, 2021 Journalists Share Posted June 16, 2021 Two greyhounds that so often fly under the radar are part of the main event at Shepparton tonight. Man Absconded could easily be considered one of the lesser lights from the powerful Delbridge kennel, but with 20 wins from just 55 starts he is a genuine star. Tonight he faces off against Bulleteer, a son of G1 Sapphire Crown winner Maja Mahi Mahi, boasts brilliant mid-race speed. Trained by Darren Fisher, Bulleteer has amassed 17 wins from 41 starts and, aside from making the Ballarat Cup final in April, he has largely gone about his career with little fanfare. Interestingly, this talented duo have some history, filling the quinella twice in the space of five days earlier this year, with Man Absconded winning the first time WATCH and Bulleteer the next in an absolute thriller. WATCH Time well tell who wins this time around, but when you throw former NSW speedster Impress Troy (9 from 21) into the mix this has the makings of a terrific contest. MAN ABSCONDED (8) is expected to start favourite and rightly so as he owns a breathtaking 21.45sec PB here. He has only won two of his past eight but he has been racing well in strong company and should get a nice cart across from SHANLYN BEAR (7) early on. BULLETEER (6) has a tremendous strike rate, and he just needs an ounce of luck early on. His box manners are not great, but he does explode once balanced, so with some room early he should be able to put himself into the mix mid race. IMPRESS TROY (5) is the interesting runner. He came to Victoria with enormous wraps and, after taking a few runs to deliver, he showed everyone what he is capable of with a sizzling 21.78sec win here last start. He exits the same draw tonight, however with the early speed drawn either side, he cannot afford to make any mistakes at box rise. MISTER FRANK (2) and DEVIL’S DISGUISE (3) are both talented types and they can run cheeky races, however if there is to be an upset, I think it can come from SHANLYN BEAR (7). He has regained some much needed confidence in recent weeks, and he can come out running on occasions. Selections: 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 THE WATCHDOG’S $10 INVESTMENT Monday 14 June $2 Win – HARTLAND DIGGER Cranbourne Race 7 Box 2 311m 3:57pmTAB fixed odds: $2.50 WinForm https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/659951770/race/7 The Watchdog says : HARTLAND DIGGER (2) is normally very reliable at box rise and he beat the explosive Time To Talk at Healesville two runs back. Today he meets just a steady line-up and, with an even getaway, he should be able to cross the red in the early stages and he is extremely hard to get past when in the clear. $2 Win – LAMONT BALE Ballarat Race 5 Box 7 450m 4:50pmTAB fixed odds: $4.60 Win Form https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/565960206/race/5 The Watchdog says : LAMONT BALE (7) is still learning what it is all about, but he turned in an eye-catching performance at Geelong last time in similar company and, with a better getaway, he can go one better today. He missed the kick last time but, prior to that, his box manners where solid, so I am expecting him to make amends today. The only real pace appears to be with his kennelmate WINSLET BALE (5), however ‘Lamont’ is much stronger in the run home, so if he can settle on her outside, he can grind his way to victory in the run home. $4 Multi First : Place – ROCK OPERA Ballarat Race 9 Box 7 390m 6:08pmTAB fixed odds: $1.45 Place Form https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/565960206/race/9 Second : Place – BIG BEAVER Shepparton Race 3 Box 3 450m 7:43pmTAB fixed odds: $1.26 Place Form https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/625458434/race/3 Third : Place – GREYSYND SHOCK Shepparton Race 4 Box 6 450m 8:05pmTAB fixed odds: $1.22 Place Form https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/625458434/race/4 Fourth : Place – CHING CHING Shepparton Race 6 Box 8 450m 8:49pmTAB fixed odds: $1.45 Place Form https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/625458434/race/6 The Watchdog says : ROCK OPERA (7) is a near faultless beginner and, although suspect late, she should have a big enough lead to hold on for a top three finish. BIG BEAVER (3) has turned in some handy performances and should work into the mix mid race. I think he can win the race; however, the place option is the safer investment in the multi. GREYSYND SHOCK (6) has been consistent and he should be on the speed from the outset. CHING CHING (8) has the best draw of any greyhound engaged across the state today. He will scout the outside fence and can carve out time, so there should be no excuses. Multi price: $3.23 $2 Quaddie – 16.66% (12 combinations) Shepparton Races 5 – 8 8:27pm ***includes our Must Watch Race*** Form https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/625458434/race/5 : 1 : 1,8 : 8 : 1,2,3,4,5,9 The Watchdog says : MOHNGA CHASE (1) loves this track/distance, and he will scrape the paint, so he appears to be a good anchor. CHING CHING (8) has the good draw and is a major player in the second leg, however we need to include ASTON KENNO (1) and CRACKERJACK CARR (4). MAN ABSCONDED (8) lines up in today’s ‘must watch event’ and he is drawn to get every chance. He should step on terms and then put them to the sword as they head into the first bend. The last leg is the most open of the four events, so we have gone wide hoping for a bit of value.
