Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 18, 2021 Journalists Share Posted June 18, 2021 There was drama at the end of the G1 Commonwealth Cup on Friday, with Campanelle (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) awarded the race by the stewards after the first-past-the-post Dragon Symbol (GB) (Cable Bay {Ire}) was judged to have caused interference that cost the Stonestreet Stables representative the race. Always travelling strongly on the front under Frankie Dettori, the 5-1 shot was passed by Dragon Symbol with 1 1/2 furlongs remaining and after being carried right and bumped by the eventual winner went down in a photo. “I feel sorry for connections of the runner-up, but in these conditions when you get carried across eight lanes and get beaten a head I had reason to believe that my filly was best on the day,” Dettori said of Campanelle. “I was coming back at the line and it was a good effort from both. I'm glad we got it.” The pair finished five lengths clear of Measure of Magic (Ire) (Kodi Bear {Ire}) in third.
