Sydney Cup aim for No Compromise

Trainer Chris Waller produced another winter find as No Compromise (NZ) (Pins) continued his form surge at Rosehill Gardens.

No Compromise, under an expert ride by James McDonald, simply wanted to win more than Lackeen in the ACY Securities Handicap (2000m).

Waller wasn’t on track but his stable representative Charlie Duckworth said No Compromise and stablemate Wicklow which won earlier on the program, are better than winter class.

Duckworth also suggested No Compromise won’t be pushed too quickly into racing at the elite level.

“We are thinking No Compromise might be good enough for a Sydney Cup next year,’’ Duckworth said.

“But that race is 10 months away so we can take No Compromise through his grades, build his confidence and he can earn some good prizemoney for his owners between now and then.’’

No Compromise ($3.20) came from last early, circled the field from the 800m and wore down Lackeen ($2.70 favourite) to win by a half neck with Kutayha ($11) nearly two lengths away third.

The favoured duo cleared out from their rivals over the last 200m with No Compromise, who was coming back in distance after a 2400m win three weeks ago, proving too strong for Lackeen.

“He was a little bit slow away but he probably would have ended up there (last on settling down) anyway,” McDonald said.

“He got into a lovely rhythm and I made him do a bit down the side to put him into the race and he did a good job to stay on.

“This horse is a little improver. He loves those condition so he will pick up a few more.”

Bred and raised at Curraghmore, No Compromise was purchased at Karaka 2018 by part-owner and former trainer Bill Thurlow for $40,000.

Out of Galileo mare Baggy Green, the family are really proving themselves across the Tasman with half-sister Tofane registering her second win at elite level in the Gr.1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) last week.
