Young sprinting star Koblenz claimed his 10th win in a row at Sandown Park this afternoon.

He did it in typical style as he exploded to the lead early and set a first split of 4.98 – equal third fastest for the year. He dropped the clutch down the back and set 18.60 before completing the 515m journey in 29.208.

“I tell you what, I’m stoked,” said trainer David Geall.

‘Jayden’ as he’s known, has now won 15 of his 20 career starts and is one of the hottest prospects in Australian greyhound racing.

Koblenz is a home grown talent. He was bred by Geall and his wife Rose out of their champion sprinter Up Hill Jill, who won 38 of 85 races and $894,561 in prize money and carried that same blinding speed. With the mating to the great Fernando Bale, anything was possible.

“When we bred this litter we hoped to get one that can go 4.90s early here, to actually have one that can do it is amazing. Up Hill Jill went 18.66 to the back in her Australian Sprint win (2018), to know he’s gone quicker is terrific.”

With one of such class and ability there are options aplenty as to where the star sprinter heads next.

“He’ll probably have one more race before the Maturity.”

Heats of the Maturity will be held on July 17 at The Meadows.

It’s been an amazing year for Geall and it looks certain to roll on. He’s had 10 wins from 29 starters at Sandown Park this year at a strike rate of 34%. Across Victoria he’s had 13 from 43 starts striking at 30%.

Koblenz was rated (as of 5pm Sunday) a $34 chance to win the TAB Melbourne Cup – the world’s greatest race. He’s now a $15 pre-noms second elect, behind Aston Rupee at $9, for the sport’s ‘Holy Grail’.
