Virginia Eloise (f, 2, Curlin–Minnie Macy, by A.P. Indy) took all the money at 3-5 in the Belmont opener and ran away late to earn her diploma for fun at first asking. The dark bay broke well from her rail draw and forced the issue as four of them lined up through an opening quarter in :22.39. She began to back out of it on the far turn as the Wesley Ward-trained second-time starter Brittas Bay (Scat Daddy) kicked for home in control. Johnny Velazquez kept after the heavy favorite in the stretch, however, and she began to respond, rallying along the inside of Brittas Bay to take over late and win going away by four lengths. Brittas Bay stayed on for second. The final time for six furlongs was 1:11.54.

Virginia Eloise was acquired by St Elias Stable in utero for $500K at KEENOV in 2015. Minnie Macy is also represented by a Curlin filly of 2017 and an Empire Maker filly of 2018. Virginia Eloise’s second dam, the GSW Miss Macy Sue (Trippi), has been responsible for ‘TDN Rising Star’, GISW and freshman sire Liam’s Map (Unbridled’s Song), GSW & GISP Not This Time (Giant’s Causeway) and fellow Rising Star, SW & GSP Taylor S (Medaglia d’Oro).

Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0. O-St Elias Stable & MeB Racing Stable; B-ST Elias Stables LLC (Ky); T-Todd Pletcher.
