Honor Code’s Max Player Upends Suburban

MAX PLAYER (c, 4, Honor Code–Fools in Love, by Not For Love) out-finished returning G1 Dubai World Cup hero Mystic Guide (Ghostzapper) to pull off an 11-1 upset in Saturday's GII Suburban S. at Belmont and earn an automatic spot in the starting gate for the GI Breeders' Cup Classic. Tracking from second early, Max Player was back to third heading for home as the favorite went for an early run up the fence. He continued to grind along into the lane, and reeled in Mystic Guide to post a neck success in 2:01.95. Previously unbeaten 'TDN Rising Star' Happy Saver (Super Saver) was a non-threatening third. A winner of last February's GIII Withers S., Max Player was third in both the GI Belmont S. and GI Runhappy Travers last season before fifths in the GI Kentucky Derby and GI Preakness S. after being transferred from Linda Rice to Steve Asmussen. He resurfaced to finish 11th in the lucrative Saudi Cup Feb. 20, and was most recently sixth in the GIII Pimlico Special S. May 14. Lifetime Record: 10-3-1-2.
