Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 5, 2021 Journalists Share Posted July 5, 2021 Form expert Dale Code has picked out a selection of runs from around Victoria that have caught the eye over the past fortnight. #1 HATTERS LANE (Box 4)Breeding: Dec ’17 Worm Burner x EstablishTrainer: Rodney Millington, Red CliffsRecord: 49 starts 11-9-9Comment: After a solid beginning was shuffled back to last. Once balanced he hooked to the outside and flashed home to finish an eye-catching 2nd. What makes the run even more special was that he was beaten in a fast 25.25sec and powered past former Ballarat track record holder Pirate Pete (Box 8). Results #2 RUN BABA RUN (Box 4)Breeding: Mar ’18 Fernando Bale x Little PookieTrainer: Jeff Galea, BrookfieldRecord: 122 starts 23-20-26Comment: Renowned for her blinding early speed, she normally needs to lead to win. After a uncharacteristic slow beginning ‘BABA’ found herself in unfamiliar territory settling off the speed. With multiple group finalist Amarillo Highway (3) out in front, victory looked beyond her. However, she defied the odds by digging deep to claim a great victory, amazingly in start number 121. Results #3 HARMON BALE (Box 8) Breeding: Apr ’18 Turanza Bale x Unix BaleTrainer: Luke Harris, SomervilleRecord: 63 starts 9-7-11Comment: One of the biggest backed runners of the night was justified when Harmon Bale recorded this eye-catching last-to-first win. After bombing the start, he circumnavigated the field from his wide draw and went on to score an imposing win. Results #4 JARICK BALE (Box 1)Breeding: Mar ’19 Allen Deed x Houston BaleTrainer: Mark Delbridge, BalliangRecord: 33 starts 12-5-3Comment: Jarick Bale rounds out the list of ‘Runs of the Fortnight’ with a great display of speed and strength in his commanding G2 McKenna Memorial (595m) heat win. He easily accounted for a top-class field and recorded one of the fastest runs seen this year over Sandown’s 595m trip – clocking a flying 33.81sec, just 2.5L off Dyna Double One’s track record. Results Dale Code is a professional form analyst and son of champion Melbourne Cup-winning trainer, the late Judy Hayley, who engineered one of the greatest all time come-from-behind group wins when Devastate took out the 1989 Traralgon Cup.
