Last Boarding Call for in-form mare

Boarding Call will be out to continue her picket fence formline when she contests the Dakins Group Mobile Pace (1980m) at Addington Raceway on Friday.

The four-year-old mare has won her last four races, but trainer Matthew Williamson is wary of the step-up in class at Addington this week.

“She has been going awesome, I have been very proud of her,” Williamson said. “She has come a long way in a short time and each win has been a little better than the last.

“I was going to turn her out and then I thought while she is in good form I would give her one go at the big smoke.

“I have thrown her in the deep end this week, but if she is running on, I will be happy.”

Prior to last month the daughter of American Ideal was struggling to find form and Williamson believes she has strengthened a lot in the last few months.

“She has probably just got a bit stronger. She is quite a big mare and it has just taken her a bit of time to strengthen, she is definitely racing stronger,” he said.

Friday will be a good indicator of where Boarding Call’s future lies, with the four-year-old inline for a break and possible career change.

“It will just depend on how she acquits herself this week whether she is up to carrying on, send her for a spell or even the broodmare paddock,” Williamson said.

Williamson will also partner Zealous Spur in the Spectators – $15 Daily Deals Handicap Trot (2600m) and Helen of Troy in the Harcourts Grenadier Beckenham Mobile Pace (1980m) for trainer Darryn Simpson.

“Zealous Spur has been going alright races. He generally has good manners so I would imagine he is a small eachway chance,” Williamson said.

“Helen of Troy is a bit the same. She is a handy maiden, but she strikes a good maiden field. If she gets a bit of luck, she could be right there too.”

Williamson currently sits on 97 driving wins for the season and he is hoping for a bit of luck this weekend to edge him closer to the century mark.

“It has been a really good season, so hopefully I can get there (100 driving wins),” he said.
