Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 10, 2021 Journalists Share Posted July 10, 2021 SANTA BARBARA (IRE) (f, 3, Camelot {GB}–Senta's Dream {GB}, by Danehill) was hammered down to even-money favoritism to get her Grade I here and ran to the money in a thrilling finish. The Coolmore representative raced between horses in mid-pack as Con Lima (Commissioner) showed the way through early splits of :24.71 and :51.31. Holding her position in fifth as three-quarters went in 1:16.40, the bay was forced to check off heels behind a wall of horses at the top of the stretch. Expertly navigated by Ryan Moore, Santa Barbara found a seam and punched through at the sixteenths pole, kicking clear to win by a length over Con Lima. Higher Truth (Ire), a daughter of the late Galileo (Ire), was third. A debut winner at the Curragh in September, Santa Barbara checked in fourth in the G1 QIPCO 1,000 Guineas May 2 at Newmarket. A well-beaten fifth in the G1 Cazoo Oaks at Epsom June 4, she missed by just a neck last out in the G1 Pretty Polly S. back at the Curragh June 27. Lifetime Record: 5-2-1-0. O-Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith & Westerberg; B-Whisperview Trading Ltd. (Ire); T-Aidan O'Brien.
