Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 23, 2021 Journalists Share Posted July 23, 2021 Carlos Montalvo has been suspended five days and fined $500 for going to the whip aboard M I Six (Mission Impazible) in the first race at Monmouth Park July 11. On the far turn, Montalvo struck his mount, noted in the chart for the race: “[M I Six] had rider go to the whip three times.” The 4-year-old won the race at 28-1. Under the controversial new whipping rules in New Jersey, a rider can use the whip only if he or she feel it necessary for safety reasons. M I Six was bearing out on the turn, and the agent Doug Hatten said his rider used the whip only because he thought the horse might put him in a dangerous situation.
