Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 1, 2021 Journalists Share Posted August 1, 2021 In a freakish display of raw speed over a track pelted by rains that caused a 30-minute delay, J. Kirk and Judy Robison's JACKIE'S WARRIOR (c, 3, Maclean's Music–Unicorn Girl, by A. P. Five Hundred) turned Sunday's GII Amsterdam S. into a one-horse show, cantering under the line by the better part of eight lengths. The 1-2 chalk to avenge his defeat at the hands of Drain the Clock (Maclean's Music) in the GI Woody Stephens S. over a slightly longer seven-furlong trip June 5, Jackie's Warrior raced as a team with the clear second betting favorite and the duo covered the opening quarter-mile in :21.46. Drain the Clock began to back up midway on the turn, but Jackie's Warrior kept on going, cutting the half-mile in a wicked :43.85. Under a double hammerlock from Joel Rosario, Jackie's Warrior floated into about the four path for the stretch run, but it was academic, as Jackie's Warrior was never out of a high gallop, stopping the clock in 1:15.46 for the 6 1/2 furlongs while being eased through the final 70 yards. Drain the Clock held second over Crowded Trade (More Than Ready). It was the second consecutive victory in the Amsterdam for Rosario and trainer Steve Asmussen, who teamed with Yaupon (Uncle Mo) to win this 12 months ago. The win took Asmussen to 9,442, now within three of Dale Baird's all-time record. Sales history: $95,000 Ylg '19 KEESEP. O-J Kirk & Judy Robison; B-J & J Stables (KY); T-Steve Asmussen.
