Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 2, 2021 Journalists Share Posted August 2, 2021 According to a tweet from Alex Bodo, the marketing manager for Fanduel Sportsbook & Horse Racing, formerly known as Fairmount Park, jockey Dave Gall has passed away at 79. With 7,396 career victories, Gall is the fifth-leading jockey of all time in the category of wins. Most of his wins came at Fairmount and the now-closed Cahokia Downs. Both tracks are in Illinois but serve the St. Louis market. Born in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan, Gall began his career in western Canada before making his way to the Illinois tracks, where he earned the nickname “The General.” He was the leading rider in wins twice during his career, in 1979 and 1981. On Oct. 18, 1978, he won eight races on the card at Cahokia. Gall retired from riding in 1999 and began training. He retired from training in 2011. This story will be updated.
