Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 7, 2021 Journalists Posted August 7, 2021 That didn't take long. Steve Asmussen won with his first of 13 starters on Saturday afternoon, capturing the fifth at Saratoga with Stellar Tap (Tapit). It was the 9,446th win of his career, moving him past Dale Baird for the top spot in most races won by a North American-based trainer. “I have the whole family here,” Asmussen said. “God is great. This is a 2-year-old from the Winchells and L and N racing that won on Whitney day. “I think everything that we've done was made possible by their support,” he said, referring to his parents Keith and Marilyn Asmussen. Winchell Thoroughbreds has been one of Asmussen's top supporters during Asmussen's career. Ricardo Santana Jr., Asmussen's go-to rider, was aboard for the win. This story will be updated.
