BELLA SOFIA (f, 3, Awesome Patriot–Love Contract, by Consolidator) sat just off a surprisingly moderate early pace and ran a classy field off their feet in Saturday's GI Longines Test S. at Saratoga. The 21-5 third choice showed good speed from her outside alley and chased outside of Illumination (Medaglia d'Oro) through a soft opening quarter mile. Going well and looking to have her pace company whenever she wanted her, Bella Sofia went for home and when she was set down in earnest a furlong from home, she put the race to bed in a couple of strides, scoring by open lengths. Souper Sensational (Curlin) sat a good inside trip and came home a non-threatening second, while favored GI Acorn S. winner and GI Kentucky Oaks runner-up Search Results (Flatter) could do no better than third. A towering 11 1/4-length maiden winner at first asking at Belmont May 6, the $20,000 OBS June graduate was a sound runner-up in the Jersey Girl S. June 6 and earned her way into this event with a 6 1/2-length first-level allowance victory downstate July 11. Sales history: $20,000 2yo '20 OBSJUN. O-Michael Imperio, Vincent S Scuderi, Sofia Soares and Gabrielle Farm et al; B-Two Tone Farms (KY); T-Rudy Rodriguez.
