Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 9, 2021 Journalists Share Posted August 9, 2021 What a big weekend of racing we have just had. The Astrologist was impressive en route to the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, while boom horse Remarque was a tough watch in the Rosebud Stakes, and we also look back at the $2.8 million flop who is now up for sale. Group 1 racing is just two weeks away When The Astrologist took out the Group 3 Aurie’s Star at Flemington on Saturday afternoon, all the talk was about what was next for the Corstens galloper. It made us ponder who are we most likely to see in the first Group 1 races of the season in Sydney and Melbourne. Verry Elleegant is set to defend her title in the Winx Stakes on August 21 on her way to a tilt at the Cox Plate, whilst the likes of Colette, Kolding, Mounga and Probabeel are all expected to take their place in the first Group 1 of the season. Chris Waller is leaning towards a tilt at the Group 1 Cox Plate with Verry Elleegant. (Bradley Photos)A week later, Behemoth will head over from South Australia to Victoria in a bid to go back-to-back in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on May 28. The surprise packet of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, Tofane, is set to start in that race, whilst the Doncaster Handicap winner Cascadian is also expected to make the trip to Caulfield. We may have plenty of racing between now and then, but the countdown is officially on! Remarque cops bad beat at Randwick Remarque is easily the best beat of the season so far. (Racing Photos)If you were like us and were on race favourite Remarque in the Listed Rosebud Stakes at Randwick on Saturday, you can almost peak out from under the covers. The Hawkes-trained Snitzel colt was a horrible watch for punters from start to finish. He kept finding himself in trouble throughout the run and with 300m to go in the race had more rump in front of him than what you would at an outback grill house. When he finally saw clear air with 100m to go, he charged home like a good thing beaten. It may have been the first weekend of a new racing season, but did we already see one of the worst beats yet? Mount Fuji up for sale Having gone for close to $3 million at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Mount Fuji is officially up for sale, with Peter & Paul Snowden clearly having enough of the four-start maiden flop. Connections are set to cut their losses during the Inglis Digital Sales this week; the current bid on the Snitzel entire is $50,000 with bidding set to end on Thursday afternoon. He is set to be the second-highest price tag during this sale, with only Manhattan Maid (who last raced in 2014) going for $200,000 purely for breeding purposes. What a terrible investment Mount Fuji turned out to be. Monday Racing Tips – August 9, 2021 Mildura racing tips About Punt Drunk Welcome to Punt Drunk!
