Triple Group One winner Bostonian’s (NZ) (Jimmy Choux) racing career is over.

Bred and raced under David Archer’s Archer Equine Investment banner, Bostonian won 10 of his 24 career starts, including the Gr.1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), Gr.1 Doomben Ten Thousand (1200m), and Gr.1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m).

All three victories came in Australia, where he raced as The Bostonian.

The lightly-raced seven-year-old has been sidelined with a fetlock injury after finishing seventh in the Gr.1 Winx Stakes (1400m) last August, and the findings of x-rays over winter led to his connections deciding to retire the son of Jimmy Choux.

“We had a discussion about a month ago and unfortunately the x-rays didn’t come back as hopeful as we had expected,” Pike said.

“He owes us absolutely nothing and after discussions with David, and with the vet’s concerns, we decided to retire him.

“It’s a shame, but it was an issue that had been there for a while and progressively got worse.

“He is a sound and happy horse at the moment but there was a risk that if he carried on racing at that level there was a chance of a pretty serious injury on the racetrack.

“We wanted to look after him and he is going to have a nice life up at David’s.”
