HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the 10-race card at Kembla Grange this Saturday, including a tip for the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes. The track is rated a Good 4, while the rail is out 3m from the 1000m to the winning post and then true for the remainder of the course. The first race is set to jump at 11:15am AEST.

Up And Coming Stakes: Tiger Of Malay

Richard and Michael Freedman combine with James McDonald around the promising Tiger Of Malay in the feature on Saturday. The son of Extreme Choice had a big carnival in Brisbane, winning the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm before finishing third to Converge in the Group 1 J.J. Atkins over the mile on June 12. This colt has had a quick freshen-up and a strong trial at Randwick and now looks ready to go first-up over 1300m, a distance which should be right up his alley. Barrier one will allow McDonald to get the top weight into a nice rhythm just off the speed and use the big straight at Kembla to stretch out. He does have to carry 61kg, some 8kg more than four of his rivals, but Tiger Of Malay has the class to get the job done.

Best Bet at Kembla Grange: Mr Mozart

Snitzel colt Mr Mozart makes his racetrack return as he heads towards the Golden Rose Stakes this spring. The Team Hawkes runner has had just two career starts; he won well at Warwick Farm on debut on the back of a good trial and then went to Group 3 level at Rosehill, where he finished fourth after being posted very wide without cover throughout. The strapping chestnut has trialled once this campaign, finishing 5.5 lengths back in second to Maotai, who went out hard, but there was plenty of merit in that effort. Tommy Berry does the steering from barrier four, which will allow him to get into the box seat and stalk the leaders. This is a serious horse who can make a mess of his rivals in Benchmark 72 company. It might be worth specking Mr Mozart at $101 in the Golden Rose market too.

Next Best Bet at Kembla Grange: Phillipsburg

We have had some luck in these Highway races the last few weeks, in particularly with Sunrise Ruby, who stamped herself as a top mare when she chased down Phillipsburg. There is no Sunrise Ruby to contend with on Saturday, so we are pretty confident that James Ponsonby’s four-year-old gelding can go one better now that he is second-up. The son of Per Incanto has won three from eight in his career, with one of those wins coming two runs back from a spell. Josh Parr will do the steering from barrier one, which should see him settle in the first half before finding clear air at the business end with a bit of luck. Favourite backers can get off to a good start in the opener on Saturday.

Best Roughie at Kembla Grange: Radipole

It has been a tick over four years since Radipole’s connections were drinking champagne in the winning owners’ lounge, and while we don’t necessarily think this Matthew Smith-trained gelding can get back into the winner’s stall this weekend, we do think that he is a bit of a smokey to run a place at massive odds. The nine-year-old son of Rock Of Gibraltar got beaten about eight lengths last time out at Randwick, but that was first-up after only one trial and history suggests he does not fire a shot fresh. In October 2020, Radipole finished third behind Ice Bath over 1600m at this grade while carrying 60kg, and he is in on Saturday with only 57kg. He has two wins and a further two placings from nine second-up runs, so improvement is expected again. For those with a bit of loose change left for a play in the 10th race of the afternoon, we can recommend having a few bob each way on Radipole at these triple-figure odds.

Best ValueRace 10 – Radipole (#11) $126 with Sportsbet
