New York invader SAFE CONDUCT (c, 3, Bodemeister–Duchess Dancer, by Congrats) pressed, pounced and held on to take Sunday's 162nd Queen's Plate as the 3-1 favorite. With top U.S. jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding in his first Queen's Plate, the Phil Serpe trainee stopped the clock in 2:02.85 after narrowly holding off Riptide Rock (Point of Entry). Longshot H C Holiday (Ami's Holiday) rounded out the trifecta. A second-out Saratoga graduate on the turf last year, Safe Conduct broke out with a sharp score over eventual GII National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame S. winner Public Sector (GB) (Kingman {GB}) in a Belmont optional claimer in May. He was a distant fourth of five in the rained-off GIII Pennine Ridge S. later that month, and was most recently eighth in the GI Belmont Derby July 10. Sales history: $45,000 wlg '18 KEENOV.
