Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted August 22, 2021 Journalists Posted August 22, 2021 Stronach homebred SILENT POET (g, 6, Silent Name {Jpn}–Cara Bella, by Ghostzapper), a winner of both the GII Connaught Cup and his second-straight running of the GII Nearctic S. last term, bounced back from a trio of off-the-board efforts to upend Sunday's GI Highlander S. at Woodbine. The 9-1 shot sat perched just behind odds-on filly Caravel (Mizzen Mast), took over from that foe with relative ease in the stretch and kept finding to hold off a furious late bid from Admiralty Pier (English Channel) by a half length. Caravel held on for third. The winner, last seen checking in fifth when attempting to defend his Connaught Cup title July 18, stopped the clock in a snappy 1:07.98. Lifetime Record: 22-11-4-2. O-Stronach Stables. B-Adena Springs (ON). T-Nicholas Gonzalez.
