8th-Kentucky Downs, $142,000, Msw, 9-5, 2yo, f, 6 1/2fT, 1:18.68, yl, neck.
QUEEN JUDITH (f, 2, Empire Maker–Starlight Tiara, by More Than Ready), given a 6-1 chance for this debut, settled near the back of the large field as Delightof the Nile (Pioneerof the Nile) led narrowly through a :22.28 opening quarter and was still several lengths off the front but starting to pick up the tempo with a half mile left to go. With the early leader getting swamped turning for home, Queen Judith was in the clear, but with about four to five lengths still to make up. Robinhill (Midshipman) and then Azamana Empire (Classic Empire) gained control in the stretch and it appeared to be game over, however, Queen Judith kept plugging away down on the inside, and got up just time to peg Azamana Empire by a neck at the wire. The winner is a half to Surfside Tiara (Scat Daddy), SW, $109,125. Sales history: $5,000 Ylg '20 FTKOCT; $260,000 2yo '21 OBSOPN. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $81,000.
