HorseBetting’s Victorian racing expert presents his best bets and quaddie selections for the eight-race card at Sale Racecourse on Thursday afternoon. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail returns to the true position, and racing is set to kick off at 1:30pm AEST.

Sale Best Bet: Sirianni

Phillip Stokes brings three-year-old filly Sirianni to Sale following a close second on the Pakenham synthetic on August 27. The daughter of Snitzel competed in stakes grade two runs back and was far from disgraced, chasing home Seradess to finish fourth in the Listed Cinderella Stakes at Morphettville. With two runner-up performances to her name from three career starts, Sirianni clearly has a bit of ability and looks perfectly placed to break her maiden here. From barrier three, we expect the in-form Alana Kelly to take her to the front of the field and look to dictate terms throughout. As history has shown, races early in the day at Sale tend to favour on-pace gallopers when the rail is in the true position, so all things point towards a Sirianni win.

Best BetRace 1 – Sirianni (#8) $2.80 with Sportsbet

Next Best Bet at Sale: Runaway River

The Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained Runaway River returns to Sale looking to break her maiden at her eighth career start. The four-year-old Street Boss mare has four runner-up performances to her name, so she clearly has some form of ability but keeps finding one better in the concluding stages. From barrier two, we expect Damien Thornton to settle Runaway River just off the leader’s heels, and you’d think only bad luck would see her get beaten on Thursday. Outside of Mt Buller from the Hayes yard, she is the only other runner to fill a minor placing at her last start. The horse who beat her at Moe on August 29 won again at that track on Monday, so we expect Runaway River to be simply too hard to hold out here.

Next BestRace 3 – Runaway River (#5) $1.90 with Ladbrokes

Sale Value Bet: El Guerrouj

El Guerrouj from the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young stable returns to the Sale 1400m, a track and distance he was a dominant winner at two starts ago on August 12. The five-year-old Savabeel gelding managed to lead the field throughout and kicked clear on the home corner to go on and win by two lengths. Having run second at Pakenham on the synthetic track last start over 1600m, we anticipate he will appreciate dropping back to 1400m on Thursday. Craig Newitt sticks on board and from barrier three should have no issue in finding the rail, dictating terms and hopefully kicking clear to claim victory once more.

Best ValueRace 5 – El Guerrouj (#10) $4 with Sportsbet
