Like many northern trainers, Jeremy Young is looking forward to returning to Alexandra Park on Friday night after a six-week hiatus.

The South Auckland horseman will have just the one runner in the form of promising filly Lady Of The Light in the Sweet Lou @ Woodlands Tender By 29 Oct Mobile Pace (1700m).

The daughter of Bettor’s Delight was backed into $2.50 favouritism when on debut at Cambridge Raceway last week and duly rewarded punters with a 1-1/2 length victory.

She had to do it the hard way after being posted three-wide early on before having to sit parked for the majority of the journey and boxed on to outclass her rivals.

“It was a fillies and mares race, which worked out well,” Young said. “We have had her well forward and I was really rapt with the run.

“She had a tougher run than you would have hoped for first up, but she did it easy enough. That is why I thought I might as well go this week and then give her a couple of weeks to freshen-up.”

Young has always had plenty of time for the two-year-old and believes she has the same ability as her full-brothers – Group One winner Jett Star and Group One performer Steel The Show.

“She has been a nice filly all the way through,” Young said. “She had one trial and then a workout and showed a bit of ability.

“Being from the family of Steel The Show and Jett Star, Steel The Light (dam) is doing a very good job as a broodmare.

“She is quite a big horse and I really like her. I am leading her towards the Dunstan Fillies Final.

“She is probably one of the better ones I have had.”

Young is looking forward to heading trackside on Friday after he was unable to attend Cambridge’s meeting last week as a result of COVID-19 restrictions.

“I wasn’t able to be there for her debut run, so it will be good to get there (Alexandra Park) and hopefully she can put her foot back in the cash register again,” he said.

“It is another step for her and from the 1700m the speed will be on throughout so it will be interesting to watch.
