SAIL BY (f, 2, Astern {Aus}–Fly by, by Johar) sat a perfect stalking trip in second, took over in upper stretch and kept finding to post a 12-1 upset in Saturday's GII Miss Grillo S. The Jeff Treadway homebred stopped the clock in 1:43.21 and prevailed by about a length. Chad Brown trainees Kinchen (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) and McKulick (GB) (Frankel {GB}) were second and third, respectively. Sail By, who becomes the first Northern Hemisphere black-type winner for her sire (by Medaglia d'Oro) and second grade/group winner for him overall, belied 28-1 odds to score first out sprinting here June 18. She was second in Monmouth's Colleen S. Aug. 1, and third in the rained-off P.G. Johnson S. at Saratoga Sept. 2. Treadway and trainer Leah Gyarmati brought 2016 Johnson winner and Miss Grillo third finisher Coasted (Tizway) to that year's Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita, where she was a fast-finishing second at 23-1 in the GI Juvenile Fillies Turf. Lifetime Record: 4-2-1-1.
