Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted July 14, 2018 Journalists Share Posted July 14, 2018 Heavily favored despite returning at 10 furlongs off a fourth as the favorite in last year’s GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff, ‘TDN Rising Star’ Elate (f, 4, Medaglia d’Oro–Cheery, by Distorted Humor) was given a cerebral ride by Jose Ortiz and showed her class through the stretch of Saturday’s GII Delaware H., drawing off toe score by a daylight margin. Void of early speed behind a tempo that was very slow for the opening half-mile, the multiple Grade I winner was clicked up by Ortiz with about five furlongs to race and was in a share of the lead as they entered the turn. Held together as long as possible, Elate was allowed to open up at the top of the lane and proved not for catching from there. Sneaky Betty (Mineshaft) plugged away for second ahead of Teresa Z (Smart Strike) in third. Lifetime Record: 11-5-3-1. O/B-Claiborne Farm & Adele B Dilschneider (KY); T-Bill Mott.
