Milestones at Oamaru

There was cause for a double celebration when favourite Count Eyre won at Oamaru on Sunday. It gave Otago trainer Ricky Allen his 50th training win, and Robbie Close his 350th driving success. Based at Palmerston Allen’s been training since the late 1980s and his 50 wins came from 625 starts, while Close started out 10 years ago and his 350 wins have come from 3671 starts.

Tight tussle in USA

It’s neck and neck between Dexter Dunn and Tim Tetrick in the race to $US10m in stakes earnings in North America this year. The two have been see-sawing at the top for months with Dunn currently first on $9,578,378 and Tetrick on $9,564,104. Dunn has 360 wins for the year, Tetrick has 488. Among Dunn’s recent successes was equalling the all-age record at Yonkers in New York with the Chris Ryder-trained Tattoo Artist. The time was 1:49.3.

Amazing Dream hot favourite

After drawing one Amazing Dream is currently a $1.75 favourite to win Saturday night’s Geelong Pacing Cup. It is the Auckland Cup winner’s first start since her fourth in the Victoria Cup. After that run she was withdrawn from the New Zealand Cup at Addington on Tuesday November 9.

Tooth cracks the ton

It’s 100 and out for champion Australian trotter Red Hot Tooth. The decision to retire the four-time Group One winner came after she finished down the track at the weekend. She won 25 of her 100 starts. She’ll now head to the broodmare paddock.
