Forgot You made it a quinella for the Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young team at The Valley on Saturday, getting up right on the line to win the Drummond Golf Vase over stablemate Commander Harry.

The Savabeel colt got into as short as $2.00 ahead of the Group 2 feature, and while it was a nervous watch for punters, he managed to return to the winner’s circle right in time for a look at next week’s $2 million Victoria Derby at Flemington.

Forgot You was making his eighth appearance at the races and hoping to add to his unblemished 2-0 record at Moonee Valley after rattling off back-to-back wins last month over shorter.

The promising three-year-old was far from disgraced last time out when sixth in the Caulfield Guineas, and always looked the one to beat stepping out past the mile for the first time.

It’s fair to say Forgot You had his work cut out though as Commander Harry rounded the field heading into the turn, putting a two-length gap between himself and his rivals at the top of the straight.

In just his fourth start, the three-year-old grew weary at the 100m mark, leaving just enough time for Moor and Forgot You to lunge at the line and salute.

“It was a good run by Commander Harry, but Forgot You always leaves us with his heart in our mouths and it’s good to have two live Derby contenders for next Saturday,” co-trainer Natalie Young said.

Forgot You remains the $3.50 favourite in Ladbrokes’ All-In Victoria Derby market, while Commander Harry can be found further down at the $26.00 quote.

The short backup and the step up in class are the two queries heading into next week’s Group 1, but there’s still a chance Forgot You returns the following Tuesday for a crack at the Melbourne Cup.

“It was a little bit of a different week for Forgot You work-wise, we had to take him to Werribee on Monday and we galloped him Tuesday and he missed out on his beach trip this week,” Young said when asked on his chances.

Forgot You is a $51 chance in Ladbrokes’ All-in Melbourne Cup market, while the Victoria Derby market can be viewed by clicking here.
