Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted October 26, 2021 Journalists Share Posted October 26, 2021 What Ipswich Races Where Ipswich Turf Club – 2019 Brisbane Rd, Bundamba QLD 4304 When Wednesday, October 27, 2021 First Race 1:18pm AEST Watch Live Streaming Live at Sportsbet HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst, Nicholas Lloyd, brings you his best bets and quaddie selections for the seven-race metropolitan meeting at Ipswich Turf Club on Wednesday afternoon. The track is rated a Soft 5 after a few storms in the area over the past week, while the rail is in the true position for the entire course. The first race of the afternoon is set to jump at 1:18pm AEST, while the last will jump at 5:10pm. Best Bet at Ipswich – The Ritz The Ritz is one horse we have a fair bit of time for, and after a dominant first-up win at the Gold Coast, we are happy to be with him here. The Michael Costa-trained four-year-old has won three of his five career starts, including a five-length romp over 1200m in Class 2 company. The son of Mossman now takes the next step as he goes back to metropolitan grade, up to Class 3 company and out in distance to 1350m, but there is no reason why he cannot win again. The Ritz didn’t lead at the Gold Coast when first-up, and while he has never led in any of his five races, he has always raced handy, so from barrier five on Wednesday for James Orman, he should be in a similar position yet again. The gelding looks a serious horse to follow, with a tilt at a race like The Gateway a possibility over the Queensland Summer Carnival. Best BetRace 4 – The Ritz (#3) $1.50 with Sportsbet Next Best at Ipswich – Ashgrove Tony Gollan and James Orman combine with the first horse in the race book on Wednesday as Ashgrove looks to win his maiden at start two. The three-year-old son of Dundeel was backed as if unbeatable on debut at the Sunshine Coast, but after getting a long way back over the 1200m journey, he was left with too much work to do and had to settle for third. The colt had trialled really well in three public trials prior to his debut run, and the market support at the Sunshine Coast showed that the stable have a big opinion of the horse. Rising from 1200m to 1350m now looks the perfect step for a horse who is only going to appreciate getting out over further, and with Orman in the saddle from barrier 10, he should be warming up late. The wide alley is a bit of a concern, but they are jumping out of the 1350m chute at Ipswich, which gives runners plenty of time to find a spot along the entire back straight before the turn. With even luck, he wins. Next BestRace 1 – Ashgrove (#1) $2.80 with Sportsbet Best Value at Ipswich – The Diamond In the penultimate race, Stuart Kendrick and Leah Kilner combine with The Diamond, who is looking to score his third career victory. The son of All Too Hard won his second career start back in May at Toowoomba and has raced four times since, including a third at the Sunshine Coast. While this four-year-old hasn’t really struck form in two runs back this campaign, his last-start effort when eighth of nine actually wasn’t all that bad, as he was beaten just under three lengths. The winner of that race, Maestoso, was heavily backed, while the runner-up, Writtle, came out of race at Ipswich which has produced a subsequent winner with Gauntlet breaking his maiden at his next start. Kilner’s claim gets the gelding in with just 54.5kg, so he should be in with a fighting chance. There will be a big watch on Festival Prince as he shoots for four straight wins after defeating Go Wandji at Warwick a fortnight ago, with that horse an impressive winner at Doomben on Saturday.
