Iridessa was relatively unfancied here at 20-1, but broke well and travelled comfortably in fifth early before moving up to Ballydoyle’s well-regarded Cardini (Magician {Ire}) in early straight. Seamie Heffernan’s body language told the story there and he only needed to shake the rains for the homebred to brush aside that 4-5 market-leader a furlong out and surge to a four-length success. “Joseph gave me the impression that he liked her and I’d be inclined to agree with him,” the jockey said. “Aidan’s is a lovely horse, but he’s still immature and she’s real nice.” Iridessa, who becomes the second winner for her G1 Epsom Derby-winning first-season sire and first in Britain and Ireland, is a granddaughter of Starine (Fr) (Mendocino), who captured the GI Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, GI Matriarch S. and GII Diana H. The dam also has a yearling colt by Australia (GB).
