Corniche (2, c, Quality Road–Wasted Tears, by Najran) rolled to the front and never looked back en route to a solid win in the GI TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Del Mar. Hustled to the front by Mike Smith from his outside post, the $1.5 million OBSAPR graduate cruised through fractions of :23.03 and :46.15. In front turning for home, the Bob Baffert trainee briefly encountered the presence of Giant Game (Giant's Causeway) and Pappacap (Gun Runner) who both loomed late, however, the undefeated colt had too much left, winning by a 2 1/2-length margin. Pappacap was second while Giant Game finished third. Final time was 1:42.50, a tick slower than the Juvenile Fillies winner Echo Zulu earlier on the card. Corniche took his career debut at Del Mar in style en route to TDN Rising Stardom Sept. 4 before adding a score in Santa Anita's GI American Pharoah Oct. 1. Lifetime Record: 3-3-0-0, $1,422,000. O-Speedway Stables; B-Bart Evans & Stonehaven Steadings (KY); T-Bob Baffert.
